Palliative Care is a fast growing specialty in the U.S that helps with pain relief, symptom management and stress of illness. The main goal is to make the patient comfortable and to offer patients and their families the best quality of life.

Delivery of Palliative Care

This care can be offered in a hospital setting, long term care facility or at home. At CJW Medical Center, we have an inpatient Palliative Care consultation service. Any patient who is admitted to CJW with Palliative Care needs may be referred by his primary care or attending physician and our Palliative Care physician will closely work with your doctor to provide the right type of Palliative Care. 

Insurance Coverage

Most insurance including Medicare and Medicaid will cover all or part of Palliative Care. A social worker or financial consultant at CJW will be happy to assist you.

You can talk to your doctor, family, and friends if you wish to consult a Palliative Care physician.

Palliative Care is the Right Choice & is Important

It is the right choice if you are having pain or other symptoms related to your serious illness or you are under stress because of chronic illness and need assistance to better understand your disease process and to decide or revise goals of care. A serious chronic illness may include: Cancer, cardiac disease, respiratory disease, kidney failure, Alzheimer’s disease, AIDS, Amyotrophic sclerosis and Multiple Sclerosis. Palliative Care can go hand in hand with other curative treatments you are receiving.

Palliative Care: A Biopsychosocial & Spiritual Model of Care

It takes care of your pain and symptoms such as shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, fatigue, constipation, loss of appetite, etc and also addresses psychosocial and spiritual needs. It is a patient centered, family focused approach to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Palliative Care consultation services require a physician referral.
Hours of service: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
